criticar

to criticise

verb kree-tee-KAHR Less Common

Usage Note

Criticar carries a negative connotation ('to criticise, to find fault with') more strongly than English 'to critique'. For objective literary or artistic analysis, analizar or reseñar is more neutral. The spelling change c → qu applies before e (critiqué, critiques). The noun crítica means both 'criticism' and 'review' (of a film, book, etc.).

Examples

"No debes criticar a tus compañeros."

Natural Translation

You should not criticise your colleagues.
