coso

thing

noun KOH-soh Rare

Also means

bullfighting arena

Usage Note

Coso has two main senses: in informal River Plate Spanish (Argentina, Uruguay), it is an all-purpose placeholder for any object whose name escapes you — roughly 'thingamajig' or 'whatchamacallit'. In standard Spanish it also means a bullring or enclosed arena. The informal use is highly regional and not widely understood in Spain.

Examples

"Pasame ese coso que está en la mesa."

Natural Translation

Pass me that thing on the table.

Literal Translation

Pass-me that thing that is on the table.
