Convencimiento denotes the internal state of being convinced, whereas convicción (a near-synonym) often sounds more formal or legalistic. You use convencimiento to describe a deeply held personal certainty: actué con pleno convencimiento ('I acted in full conviction'). It does not refer to a criminal conviction — that is condena.
