Usage Note

Contentar means to make someone satisfied or happy enough — not necessarily overjoyed, but adequately pleased. It differs from contenerse ('to restrain oneself') and from satisfacer (to fully satisfy). The reflexive contentarse con means 'to make do with' or 'to be content with': se contentó con poco ('he made do with little'). It is a regular -ar verb.
