Complicidad can be used in a negative legal sense (complicidad en el crimen — complicity in the crime) and in a warm, affectionate sense to describe shared understanding between close friends or lovers (había una complicidad especial entre ellos). The adjective is cómplice, which is also the noun for an accomplice.
