Usage Note
Cimentar is used both literally (to lay a foundation) and figuratively (to consolidate or establish firmly), as in cimentar una relación (to build a solid relationship). It can be conjugated as a stem-changing verb (cimiento, cimienta) or, increasingly and now preferred, as a regular one (cimento, cimenta). The related noun is cimiento (foundation).
