Cara can mean a person's face or the face (side) of a coin or object. The idiom cara a cara means 'face to face'; poner cara de + noun/adjective means 'to make a ... face'. Note that cara also functions as an adjective meaning 'expensive' in colloquial speech (¡qué cara está la gasolina!).
