Apostar is a stem-changing verb (o→ue): apuesto, apuestas, apuesta… The construction is apostar a + infinitive or apostar por + noun/clause: apostó por una solución pacífica (she bet on a peaceful solution). Figuratively apostar por means to bet on or commit to a course of action, and is very common in political and business discourse.
