andanada

broadside

noun an-dah-NAH-dah Rare

Also means

volley of criticism

Usage Note

Andanada originally referred to a naval broadside — a simultaneous discharge of all guns on one side of a warship. Figuratively, and far more commonly today, it means a sustained volley of criticism or a barrage of words: soltó una andanada de insultos ('he let fly a torrent of insults'). The word is also used for a tiered grandstand section in a bullring. The figurative sense dominates modern journalistic usage.

Examples

"El político lanzó una andanada de críticas al gobierno."

Natural Translation

The politician launched a broadside of criticism at the government.
