Usage Note
Vocero is the standard term for 'spokesman/spokesperson' in Latin America, while portavoz is more common in Spain for the same role. Vocero derives from voz (voice) and has a transparent etymology. The feminine form is vocera. In some Latin American countries vocero can also be used informally to mean a loud-mouthed person or rumor-spreader.
