Viceministro is the official title for the minister's second-in-command in many Latin American government systems; in Spain the more common equivalent is subsecretario. The feminine form is viceministra. The prefix vice- (from Latin vicis, 'in place of') appears in many Spanish titles: vicepresidente, vicedecano.
