utopía
utopia
noun oo-toh-PEE-ah Rare
Origin: Coined by Thomas More from Greek ou ('not') + topos ('place'), meaning 'nowhere'.
Usage Note
Utopía entered Spanish from the title of More's 1516 Latin work Utopia. It is a llana word with the written accent on the í. Its antonym distopía has grown rapidly in modern use, and the derived adjective utópico/a is commonly used to dismiss impractical ideals: eso es utópico ('that's utopian thinking').
Examples
