Usage Note

Torero is the general term for a bullfighter; the most prestigious type, who performs on foot with a cape, is specifically called a matador. A mounted bullfighter is a picador. The feminine torera also gives its name to a short jacket style (una chaqueta torera) worn in fashion contexts worldwide.
