Usage Note
Tomar has a broad range: to take an object, to take a bus (tomar el autobús), to drink or eat something (tomar un café), or to make a decision (tomar una decisión). In Latin America it is the standard verb for consuming drinks; in Spain beber is often preferred for alcoholic drinks. The phrase tomar el pelo means 'to pull someone's leg'.
