tejido

fabric, tissue

noun teh-HEE-doh Less Common

Origin: From tejer ('to weave'), from Latin texere.

knitting (craft)

Usage Note

Tejido covers both biological tissue (tejido muscular — 'muscle tissue') and woven or knitted fabric (tejido de lana — 'woollen fabric'). The craft of knitting/weaving is also called el tejido. The verb tejer means both 'to weave' and 'to knit.' Do not confuse tejido (fabric/tissue) with tela (cloth, a broader term for any flat material).

Examples

"El tejido muscular se recupera con descanso."

Natural Translation

Muscle tissue recovers with rest.
