sirvienta

maidservant; female servant

noun seer-BYEN-tah Rare

Usage Note

Sirvienta is the feminine form of sirviente (servant); both derive from servir (to serve). In many Latin American countries the term can feel dated or pejorative — empleada doméstica or trabajadora del hogar is preferred in formal and respectful speech. The masculine sirviente is used for male servants; sirvienta is exclusively female.

Examples
