rudo
rough, rude
adjective RROO-doh Rare
Origin: From Latin rudis (raw, unformed).
Also means
harsh
Usage Note
Rudo can describe a rough texture, blunt manners, or harsh treatment — un trabajo rudo is hard, rough work, while una persona ruda is a blunt or uncouth person. In Latin America it can also carry the positive sense of 'tough' or 'rugged' in certain contexts (a tipo rudo may be admired for toughness). Do not confuse with grosero (vulgar, offensive), which is stronger.
Examples
"Tiene un carácter rudo pero honesto."
Natural Translation
He has a rough but honest character.
