Origin: Czech robota (forced labour), via the 1920 play R.U.R. by Karel Čapek.
Usage Note
Robot is a loanword whose plural is robots — the final consonant cluster is preserved, unlike many Spanish words. It is used both for physical machines and, increasingly, for software bots. The compound robot de cocina is the standard term for a food processor or kitchen machine in Spain.
