resonar
to resonate; to echo
verb rreh-soh-NAHR Rare
Origin: From Latin 'resonare' (to resound), from 're-' + 'sonare' (to sound).
Usage Note
Resonar is a stem-changing verb (o→ue): resuena, resuenan, but resonamos. It is used both literally (a sound echoing in a space) and figuratively (an idea or memory that 'resonates'): sus palabras aún resuenan en mi mente ('her words still resonate in my mind'). The figurative use is common in journalistic and literary prose. Do not confuse with razonar (to reason), which sounds similar to untrained ears.
Examples
"La música resonó por toda la catedral."
Natural Translation
The music resonated throughout the cathedral.
