rebaño

flock

noun rreh-BAH-nyoh Rare

Also means

herd

Usage Note

Rebaño most precisely refers to a flock of sheep or goats, but is also used loosely for any herd of animals. Figuratively and often pejoratively it describes a crowd acting without independent thought: el rebaño electoral (the voting herd). The initial r is trilled (like rr) at the start of a word in Spanish pronunciation.

Examples

"El pastor condujo el rebaño al valle."

Natural Translation

The shepherd led the flock to the valley.
