radio
radio
noun RRAH-dyoh Less Common
Origin: from Latin radius (ray, spoke)
Also means
radius
Usage Note
Radio is feminine when it means the broadcasting medium (la radio), but masculine for the mathematical radius, the chemical element radium, and the spoke of a wheel (el radio). In parts of Latin America el radio is also used for the receiver set itself. So the same noun carries two genders depending on the sense.
