Usage Note

Promediar means both 'to calculate an average' (promediar los resultados) and, intransitively, 'to average out at a certain value' (el equipo promedió tres goles por partido). The related noun promedio means 'average' or 'mean'. In sports commentary promediar is especially common when discussing statistics.
