Origin: From Latin praecox (ripening early), from prae- (before) + coquere (to cook/ripen).
Also means
early (of fruit)
Usage Note
Precoz has the same form for masculine and feminine: un niño precoz, una niña precoz. Its plural is precoces — note the z → c spelling change before -es. In botany it describes early-ripening fruit, but in everyday use it almost always means a child who develops skills unusually early.
