Usage Note
Ocurrir is typically used in the third person (ocurrió, ocurre) because events 'happen' rather than people 'do' them. The reflexive ocurrirse means 'to come to mind': se me ocurrió una idea ('an idea occurred to me'). It is intransitive, so you cannot say ocurrir algo directly.
Examples
"¿Qué ocurrió ayer?"
Natural Translation
What happened yesterday?
