Usage Note
Novedad covers both something genuinely new (la última novedad tecnológica, 'the latest tech novelty') and recent developments in the sense of news or updates. In military and police registers sin novedad means 'nothing to report, all clear'. The plural novedades is often used informally for 'what's new'.
