Usage Note
Noticia is a count noun — 'a piece of news'; the plural noticias is 'the news' (the programme or general information). English 'news' is uncountable, so una noticia translates as 'a news item', never 'a news'. Dar una noticia is 'to break news to someone', and noticiario or noticiero (Latin America) is the TV/radio news bulletin.
Examples
"Escuché una noticia sorprendente hoy."
Natural Translation
I heard a surprising piece of news today.
