Usage Note

Meta is the general word for a personal or professional goal (alcanzar una meta, to reach a goal) as well as the finish line in a race. In Spanish football commentary, gol is used for a scored goal, not metameta stays abstract or refers to the physical line. It is feminine: la meta.
