Usage Note
Mapuche refers to the indigenous people of south-central Chile and Argentina, their language (el mapudungun), and their culture. As both noun and adjective it is invariable in gender and number in many contexts: la comunidad mapuche, los pueblos mapuche. The Mapuche are the largest indigenous group in Chile.
