mansión
mansion
noun mahn-SYOHN Rare
Origin: From Latin mansio (dwelling, stopping place).
Usage Note
Mansión refers to a large, grand residence. It is a false friend only in register: English 'mansion' and Spanish mansión match well, but learners sometimes over-translate casa grande as mansión when casa grande is sufficient for a large house that is not truly grand. The plural mansiones is regular.
Examples
"Vivía en una mansión con jardín enorme."
Natural Translation
She lived in a mansion with a huge garden.
