Usage Note

Malla means a mesh or net structure (wire mesh, fishing net, chain mail) but in Argentina and Uruguay it is the standard word for a swimsuit (malla de baño), where Spain would say bañador. It is also used for the tight bodysuits worn by dancers or cyclists. The plural mallas can mean leggings or tights in several countries.
