luego
then; later
adverb LWEH-goh Common
Origin: from Latin loco (in the place, immediately)
Also means
therefore; next
Usage Note
Luego has a temporal sense ('later', 'then') and a logical-connector sense ('therefore'): pienso, luego existo (Descartes's cogito). In informal Latin American speech luego often means 'right away' or 'immediately' — in Mexico ahorita and luego can paradoxically both mean 'in a moment', context clarifying urgency. The farewell ¡hasta luego! ('see you later') is one of the most frequent phrases in Spanish.
Examples
"Primero estudia, luego juega."
Natural Translation
First study, then play.
