Usage Note

Llamada is the standard word for a phone call (hacer una llamada, recibir una llamada). It also covers a general call or summons (la llamada del deber = the call of duty). In Spain, llamar by phone usually means llamar por teléfono; in Latin America llamar a alguien alone is commonly understood as phoning someone. Llamada perdida is a missed call.
