Usage Note
Leonés refers to anything from León, a province and historic kingdom in northwest Spain. As a noun it also denotes leonés, a Romance language closely related to Asturian, spoken by a small community in León and Zamora. When used as a nationality adjective, the feminine is leonesa and the accent is dropped in the plural: leoneses. Do not confuse with León in Mexico, which has its own demonym leonés but in a different regional context.
