juzgar

to judge

verb hoos-GAHR Less Common

Also means

to assess

Usage Note

Juzgar undergoes a spelling change before e: the g becomes gu (juzgue, not juzge) to preserve the hard-g sound. It covers both legal judging and everyday evaluative judgment. The reflexive juzgarse is rarer; more common is the warning no juzgues a la gente — do not judge people.

Examples

"No debes juzgar a las personas por su apariencia."

Natural Translation

You should not judge people by their appearance.
