joven
young person
noun adjective HOH-behn Common
Origin: From Latin iuvenis (young person).
Also means
young
Usage Note
Joven functions as both noun (los jóvenes = young people) and adjective (una actriz joven = a young actress). It does not change for gender in the singular: un joven, una joven. The plural jóvenes takes a written accent because adding the syllable makes it an esdrújula word; the stress stays on jo-. The superlative is jovencísimo.
Examples
"Los jóvenes prefieren las redes sociales."
Natural Translation
Young people prefer social media.
Literal Translation
The young-ones prefer the social-networks.
