intervalo
interval
noun een-tehr-BAH-loh Rare
Origin: From Latin intervallum (space between ramparts).
Also means
intermission
Usage Note
Intervalo covers both a time interval (un intervalo de diez minutos) and a musical interval (the distance between two pitches). In Spain the theatre or cinema break between acts is called descanso or intermedio rather than intervalo, which belongs more to formal or scientific contexts. The stress falls on the penultimate syllable: in-ter-VA-lo.
Examples
"Hay un intervalo de cinco minutos."
Natural Translation
There is a five-minute interval.
