grupo
group
noun GROO-poh Common
Origin: From Italian gruppo, ultimately from Germanic kruppa.
Usage Note
Grupo covers social groups, musical groups (un grupo de rock), and working groups (grupo de trabajo). It is masculine regardless of who is in it. In music journalism it often replaces banda: el grupo Mecano. The plural grupos is regular. Don't confuse it with gremio (guild/professional association) or conjunto (ensemble/set), which have narrower or more formal senses.
Examples
"El grupo llegó tarde a la reunión."
Natural Translation
The group arrived late to the meeting.
