forma

form

noun FOHR-mah Common

Origin: From Latin forma.

Also means

shape

Usage Note

Forma means both physical shape (la forma del edificio — the shape of the building) and method/way (de esta forma — in this way). De todas formas is a very common set phrase meaning 'anyway' or 'regardless'. En forma means 'in shape' (physically fit). Don't confuse forma with formulario (a fill-in form/document) — a common false equivalence for English speakers.

Examples

"No me gusta la forma en que habla."

Natural Translation

I don't like the way he speaks.

Literal Translation

Not to-me pleases the form in which speaks
