Usage Note

Fluir is a regular -ir verb with a spelling change: a y is inserted before stressed o and a endings — fluye, fluyen, fluyó, fluyeron. Beyond liquids, fluir is used metaphorically for ideas, conversation, or creativity: dejar fluir la creatividad ('to let creativity flow'). The related noun is flujo ('flow', 'flux') and the adjective fluido ('fluid', 'fluent').
