eventualidad

eventuality

noun eh-ben-twah-lee-DAHD Rare

Also means

contingency

Usage Note

Eventualidad refers to something that may or may not occur—a possible but uncertain future event. It is common in legal, administrative, and journalistic registers: prever cualquier eventualidad (to anticipate any eventuality). It is a close cognate of 'eventuality' in English, but note that Spanish eventual means 'possible/contingent', not 'eventual' (use eventual carefully—it is a false friend).

Examples

"Hay que estar listos para cualquier eventualidad."
