Origin: From Latin strictus, past participle of stringere (to bind tight).

Usage Note

Estricto describes rules, people, or standards that allow no deviation. It is used with ser (a permanent characteristic): es muy estricto con los horarios ('he is very strict about schedules'). The adverb estrictamente ('strictly speaking') is common in formal writing. Do not confuse with estrecho ('narrow').
