floppy disk; diskette

noun dees-KEH-teh Rare

Origin: From English diskette, diminutive of disk.

Usage Note

It is now largely obsolete in practice, though the icon persists as a universal 'save' symbol. Also spelled disket. The larger 5.25-inch format was disco flexible and the 3.5-inch one was commonly the disquete.
