Usage Note
Disidente functions as both a noun and adjective (una voz disidente, un disidente político). It does not change for gender — el/la disidente. It is used in political and religious contexts for someone who openly opposes the ruling group or doctrine. The verb disidir is rarely used; disentir (to disagree) is preferred.
Examples
"Varios disidentes fueron arrestados esa noche."
Natural Translation
Several dissidents were arrested that night.
