Usage Note

Directiva has two main uses: a directive or binding instruction (la directiva europea, 'the EU directive') and the board or governing body of an organisation (la directiva del club, 'the club's board'). The EU sense (directiva comunitaria) is especially frequent in legal and journalistic Spanish. As an adjective, directivo means 'managerial': personal directivo ('management staff').
