directamente

directly

adverb dee-rek-tah-MEHN-teh Less Common

Usage Note

Directamente is formed regularly from the adjective directo + -mente. It can modify a verb (hablar directamente — to speak directly/frankly) or link two noun phrases (directamente relacionado con — directly related to). In colloquial speech it also signals bluntness: te lo digo directamente (I'll tell you straight). When two -mente adverbs appear in sequence, Spanish convention drops the suffix from all but the last: clara y directamente.

Examples

"Fue directamente a casa después del trabajo."

Natural Translation

He went straight home after work.

Literal Translation

Went directly to house after of-the work
