Also means
arrested
Usage Note
Detenido is the past participle of detener used as an adjective ('stopped, arrested') and as a noun (el detenido = 'the detainee'). In everyday speech it also means 'slow' or 'halted' (tráfico detenido = 'traffic at a standstill'). Do not confuse with muerto (dead) — the word only signals stopping or arrest, not death.
Examples
"El detenido fue trasladado a la comisaría."
Natural Translation
The detainee was taken to the police station.
