Usage Note
Despilfarro denotes the reckless wasting of money, resources, or time. The corresponding verb is despilfarrar (despilfarró su herencia — he squandered his inheritance). It conveys a stronger sense of irresponsibility than the more neutral desperdicio (waste). The double rr is pronounced as a trilled rr sound.
