Usage Note
Cuerpo refers primarily to the physical body but extends to any organized body or corps (cuerpo de bomberos = fire brigade, cuerpo diplomático = diplomatic corps). The phrase cuerpo a cuerpo means 'hand-to-hand' combat. Unlike English 'body', it is not used to mean 'a dead body' in neutral speech — use cadáver for that.
Examples
"El ejercicio fortalece el cuerpo."
Natural Translation
Exercise strengthens the body.
