context
noun kon-TEK-stoh Less Common
Origin: From Latin contextus (connection), from contexere (to weave together).
Usage Note
Contexto is a near-perfect cognate with English 'context' and is used identically: historical context (contexto histórico), cultural context, or conversational setting. The phrases en contexto and fuera de contexto ('out of context') are very common. Do not confuse with pretexto (pretext, excuse), which sounds similar. Masculine noun; plural contextos.
