to compare

Usage Note

Confrontar can mean both 'to face/confront someone' and 'to compare two things side by side'. In the second sense it is a near-synonym of cotejar. Note that in Spanish confrontar un problema is fully standard, whereas English 'confront' in that sense is sometimes considered informal. The reflexive confrontarse con means 'to come face to face with'.
